Simulation: Life Cycle of a Trade

This highly interactive simulation gives participants the opportunity to apply their existing knowledge of operational processes, to work as a team, and trade effectively, monitoring risk.

Participants will each get the opportunity to play the role of a Trader, Operations and Product Controller. The teams objective is to create, process and reconcile trades correctly, reporting and eliminating errors.

For individuals with a working knowledge of equity markets.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course delegates should understand:

  • How trades are created, processed and recorded
  • What happens in the case of an unreconciled trade
  • The key risks in trading and how they can be managed

Course Content

Life Cycle of a Trade Simulation:

  • Participants split into teams of 3 and will trade Asian equities within set limits
  • Prices and news flow will evolve on the screen
  • If traders wish to buy a stock, they must need to find another trader willing to sell
  • Operations send confirmations and receive confirmations from counterparties
  • Product control receive all reconciled confirms from operations and record all transactions and risk

Role 1 – Trader:

  • Buying and selling equities
  • Making profit
  • Risk management

Role 2 – Operations:

  • Process all trades against your counterparties
  • Ensure all trade details match and failed trades are quickly fixed

Role 3 – Product Control:

  • Maintain timely and accurate record of your firm’s P&L
  • Understand risks within the trading book
