The High Value Analyst

Joining a financial services organisation as an analyst can feel overwhelming and daunting. Whilst trying to navigate the massive learning curve that comes with being a new analyst, analysts can experience a sense of pressure to quickly add value and prove themselves an asset to their team.

The High Value Analyst course will explore the fundamental behaviours that will enable an analyst to quickly make a positive impact to their team, supporting their manager and building relationships as they make the transition from student to analyst.

Course Content

The Proactive Analyst

  • Recognising the value of a proactive mindset
  • The circles of control: how can you act upon the key challenges which you face as a new analyst?
  • Asking smart questions to understand goals

Healthy Habits of Success

  • You are what you repeatedly do: which habits currently serve you well as an analyst and which should you replace?
  • The identity of habit: what kind of professional do you want to be? What kind of habits do you need to adopt to make this happen?

Managing Up

  • Making your manager’s job easier
  • Putting yourself in your managers shoes
  • Understanding your managers preferences

  • The expectation Analysts have choice in how they respond to challenges
  • Appreciate that in order to succeed analysts must first look after their own well-being


  • New habits which will enable you to continually work towards optimising your potential
  • Empathy, to understand how to add value to your team


  • Habits which do not serve you in your new role
  • Your automatic reaction to challenging circumstances which analysts routinely face

Embedding Success

Post programme activities to support the transfer of learning and building of habits.


Record your activity at work for 3-5 days. How much of your time are you spending in a reactive mode versus proactive mode? What can you do to ensure you are adopting a more proactive mindset?


Create for yourself a list of high value questions which you can refer to each time you are given a new task to attend to. If you can’t answer these questions after being given a new task go back to the person who gave you the task and ask them.


Start communicating with your manager according to their communication preferences. If you’re not sure what their preferences are find out and take it from there.
